What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional position at Menorah Park?
Pay: $17.60 - $17.80 per hour
BROAD FUNCTION:
Provide training for residents geared toward independence in all activities of daily living.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides training and supervision in various activities of daily living including: self-help, communications, interpersonal, leisure activities, etc., helping each individual to function more independently.
Provides direct assistance on an as-needed basis or as assigned to individuals with daily self-care needs. Completes activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, to assure individual daily needs are net.
Maintains relationships and open communications with all service providers. Accompanies and transports individuals on shopping and recreation trips and provides instruction and assistance as needed. May be required to provide transportation in personal vehicle on occasion.
Provides necessary support to meet nutritional needs. Oversees/performs fire drills as required. Provides crisis intervention for individuals to prevent injury to themselves and others.
Communicates with family, guardian, and/or correspondents and advocates for individuals in the absence of same.
Observes and documents individual's performance and behaviors to facilitate assessment and development of service goals.
Serves as positive role model for our Residents. Interacts with others in a way which will assist Residents in developing behaviors, skills, and attitudes necessary for successful community living. Maintains neat appearance, hygiene and grooming. Assists and/or monitors therapeutic activities such as physical exercises, occupation arts and crafts, and recreational games.
Administers, supervises and/or monitors administration of medications as prescribed by physician. Attends to routine health care needs of individuals as indicated in consumer's service plan and as directed by appropriate staff.
Assists the Residence Director/Manager in the maintenance of the residence.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED, valid and clean NYS driver's license, plus 3 years driving experience. CPR, First Aid and where required SCIP-R and AMAP Certification within 30 days or employment.
Ability to lift/move resident from toilet, tub, shower when needed. Ability to lift 50 pounds, push/pull 250 pounds
Job Type: Part-time-Saturday and Sunday 9am to 7pm OR Full Time Monday-Friday 1pm - 8pm
