Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Telecommunications Technician to support underground infrastructure projects. This role focuses on running, pulling, and securing coaxial and fiber optic lines in underground environments such as conduit systems, handholes, vaults, and utility easements. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, physically capable, and experienced working in confined or below-grade spaces.
Responsibilities
- Install, run, pull, and secure coaxial and fiber optic cables in underground conduit systems
- Perform cable placement through handholes, vaults, pedestals, and underground pathways
- Assist with trench, bore, and conduit preparation in coordination with construction crews
- Secure cables using proper supports, anchors, and bonding methods per industry standards
- Identify, label, and document cable routes and underground assets
- Perform basic fiber tasks such as pulling, dressing, and organizing (splicing experience a plus)
- Read and interpret construction prints, utility maps, and work orders
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized worksite at all times
- Follow OSHA, DOT, and company safety procedures, including confined space protocols
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, and project managers
Requirements
- 1 years of experience in telecommunications, utility, or underground construction
- Hands-on experience pulling coax and/or fiber optic cable
- Comfortable working underground in confined or enclosed spaces
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Willingness to work overtime, nights, or weekends as needed
Perferred Qualifications
- Fiber optic splicing or testing experience (OTDR, power meter, fusion splicing)
- Confined Space Certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
- Experience with directional boring or trenching operations
- Knowledge of underground utility standards and local codes
