Position Summary
The Lead Life Coach develops, implements, and evaluates the coaching model for The Excel Center. The position provides leadership, supervision, training, and performance management for Life Coaches while maintaining a limited student caseload. The Lead Life Coach partners with school leadership and instructional staff to improve student retention, academic progress, enrollment, graduation outcomes, and transition to postsecondary opportunities.
Function:
Under general supervision of the School Director, Lead Life Coach provides leadership, coaching, and support to the Life Coach team while maintaining a limited student caseload. This role oversees caseload assignments, monitors student progress, supports attendance and retention efforts, and helps ensure students receive the academic, career, and personal support needed to persist and graduate. The Lead Life Coach works collaboratively with school leadership, instructional staff, community partners, and Life Coaches to strengthen student engagement, remove barriers, promote achievement, and support postsecondary success for Excel Center students.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership and Staff Development
· Supervise, mentor, coach, and evaluate Life Coaches to ensure effective student support and achievement of school goals.
· Facilitate onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development for Life Coaching staff.
· Develop and maintain a high-performance, student-centered coaching culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
· Conduct formal and informal performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
· Assist Life Coaches with goal setting, action planning, and professional growth opportunities.
· Participate as a member of the school's leadership team and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.
Student Success and Case Management
· Maintain a limited caseload of students while providing academic, career, college, and social-emotional coaching.
· Monitor student progress toward graduation, credit attainment, attendance, persistence, and educational goals.
· Lead intervention planning and support strategies for students identified as at risk of withdrawal or academic failure.
· Support Life Coaches in developing and monitoring Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and student success plans.
· Assist students in overcoming barriers to education through problem-solving, advocacy, and resource coordination.
· Ensure students receive appropriate referrals and connections to community resources and supportive services.
· Identify, track and review data trends targeting retention demonstrated by adult learners that pose a risk to students’ success and develop school wide interventions to support students’ needs
Data Management and Continuous Improvement
· Monitor student enrollment and maintain balanced caseload assignments among Life Coaches.
· Develop and implement systems to track student outcomes, including attendance, retention, persistence, graduation, and postsecondary success.
· Analyze student, program, and staff performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
· Use data to inform decision-making, develop interventions, and measure the effectiveness of coaching strategies.
· Establish and monitor coaching team performance metrics aligned with school-wide goals.
· Conduct final graduate audit to determine graduation eligibility
Enrollment and Retention Supports
· Support CRM team with new student onboarding processes to ensure a positive and supportive enrollment experience.
· Coordinate educational planning and goal-setting activities for new and at risk students.
· Monitor attendance and retention efforts and implement strategies to improve student persistence.
· Collaborate with enrollment staff and school leadership to support recruitment and student outreach initiatives.
· Assist with re-engagement efforts for students who have stopped attending or are at risk of withdrawing.
Collaboration and Community Partnerships
· Partner with instructional staff, administrators, and support teams to improve student achievement and graduation outcomes.
· Collaborate with school leadership to establish and achieve annual goals related to enrollment, retention, student achievement, and graduation.
· Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies, employers, colleges, training providers, and other external partners.
· Coordinate supportive services and resources that address student barriers and promote success.
· Represent The Excel Center in community outreach, recruitment, and partnership-building activities.
Operational and Administrative Support
· Ensure accurate and timely documentation of student interactions, interventions, referrals, and progress within designated systems.
· Maintain compliance with school policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
· Coordinate the distribution and tracking of student support resources, including transportation and childcare assistance, when applicable.
· Attend required meetings, professional development activities, and school events.
· Perform other duties as assigned in support of The Excel Center's mission and strategic objectives
Job Qualifications
· Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Educational Leadership, or other related field
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in mentoring, counseling, advising, or related field.
· Experience working with secondary students in a non-traditional setting and/or in adult education setting highly preferred.
