Position Summary
The Special Education (SPED) Paraprofessional supports students with special education needs in achieving their academic and personal goals. Working under the direction of the GECM Academic Intervention Coordinator, this role provides instructional, behavioral, academic, and physical support in and outside of the general ed classroom to ensure an inclusive, student-centered learning environment aligned with The Excel Center’s mission and federally mandated compliance under IDEA and FERPA.
Essential Responsibilities
Instructional Support
· Assist general education teachers in delivering differentiated instruction to students with diverse learning needs in an inclusive setting
· Provide one-on-one and small group academic support based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
· Implement teacher-led lesson plans, assist with reading/math, and adaptive materials for students with special needs.
Student Support and Engagement
· Build positive relationships with students to encourage persistence and success
· Monitor student progress and provide feedback to staff and Academic Intervention Coordinator
District Compliance
· Provide support through various accommodations identified in the students Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
· Tracks student progress through progress monitoring towards IEP goals and reinforces social/behavioral skills.
· Ensure compliance with district, federal, state, and organizational guidelines through IDEA
Classroom and Behavioral Support
· Assist in maintaining a structured, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
· Support and implement behavior management strategies listed in the students’ Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and/or Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
Collaboration
· Participate in meetings and professional development
· Coordinate meeting notes during IEP meetings in a timely manner
Job Qualifications
· High school diploma required; associate degree preferred
· Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
· Strong communication, patience, and teamwork skills
· Basic technology proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Google Classroom, TEAMS, Excel, and/or Outlook
· Ability to pass an academic enrichment assessment in Literacy and Math grades K-8
