Paramedic

Position Summary

The Paramedic provides advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical care and transportation services throughout Converse County, Wyoming. This position serves a diverse rural population and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls across the county, including the communities of Douglas, Glenrock, and surrounding rural areas. The Paramedic functions as a critical member of the healthcare team, delivering high-quality prehospital care, promoting patient safety, and supporting the mission of Memorial Hospital of Converse County.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Respond promptly and professionally to emergency and non-emergency requests for service.
• Assess, treat, stabilize, and transport patients in accordance with Wyoming EMS regulations, medical protocols, and physician direction.
• Perform advanced life support procedures, including airway management, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, intravenous and intraosseous access, and other approved interventions.
• Operate ambulances and emergency vehicles safely in all weather and road conditions common to rural Wyoming.
• Provide compassionate and patient-centered care to individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, healthcare providers, dispatch personnel, law enforcement, fire departments, and other agencies.
• Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and transport information using approved electronic patient care reporting systems.
• Participate in interfacility transfers and specialty transports as assigned.
• Inspect, maintain, and restock ambulances, medical equipment, and supplies to ensure operational readiness.
• Assist with quality improvement initiatives, training activities, and community education programs.
• Maintain compliance with all hospital, EMS, state, federal, and accreditation requirements.
• Participate in scheduled shifts, on-call assignments, and disaster or mass casualty responses as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of advanced prehospital emergency medical care practices.
• Ability to make sound clinical decisions in dynamic and stressful environments.
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in remote and rural settings with limited resources.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with EMS equipment, electronic documentation systems, and communication devices.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, patients, hospital staff, and partner agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Wyoming Paramedic license or ability to obtain Wyoming licensure.
• Current National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification preferred.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Successful completion of pre-employment screening requirements, including background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a rural EMS system.
• Experience with critical care transport, community paramedicine, or emergency department support.
• Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull patients and equipment exceeding 100 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to work in a variety of environments, including homes, highways, industrial sites, agricultural settings, and adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.

Work Environment

Memorial Hospital of Converse County provides EMS coverage throughout approximately 4,200 square miles of rural Wyoming. Paramedics serve the communities of Douglas, Glenrock, and surrounding areas, responding to a broad range of medical, trauma, agricultural, industrial, and highway emergencies. Employees must be prepared to work independently and collaboratively in a rural healthcare environment where critical thinking, adaptability, and professionalism are essential.
