Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Position Summary

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides pre-hospital emergency medical care, transportation, and support services to patients experiencing illness, injury, or other medical emergencies. The EMT assesses patient conditions, administers basic life support, and safely transports patients while maintaining high standards of patient care, safety, and professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls promptly and professionally.
• Assess patient conditions and provide appropriate emergency medical care within EMT scope of practice.
• Administer basic life support interventions, including CPR, oxygen therapy, bleeding control, and airway management.
• Safely transport patients to healthcare facilities while monitoring patient status.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, healthcare providers, dispatch personnel, and first responders.
• Prepare and maintain accurate patient care reports and documentation.
• Inspect, clean, and maintain ambulances, equipment, and supplies.
• Follow established protocols, policies, and safety procedures.
• Participate in training, continuing education, and quality improvement activities.
• Support disaster response and mass casualty incidents as needed.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current EMT certification/licensure as required by the state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the position.

Preferred

• Previous EMT or emergency services experience.
• Advanced certifications relevant to emergency medical services.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100 pounds with assistance.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
• Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
• Ability to perform duties requiring physical stamina and endurance.

Work Schedule

• May include days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and extended hours as operationally required.
