Position Overview
MEMCO is hiring Firewatchers for an active industrial project in Massillon, Ohio. This role supports all hot work operations and helps maintain a safe workspace by monitoring welding, cutting, and grinding activities throughout the project. Candidates must be dependable, alert, and comfortable working long shifts in a busy construction environment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor hot work areas for sparks, heat, or hazards that could lead to fire
- Keep the immediate work zone clear of flammable materials
- Maintain communication with welders, supervisors, and safety staff
- Stop work or report unsafe conditions when needed
- Maintain a constant watch during all hot work activities and required cool-down periods
- Keep fire extinguishers and safety equipment within reach
- Follow all site safety rules and Perry & Perry procedures
Requirements
- OSHA 10
- Firewatch / Hot Work Safety training
- Previous Firewatch experience
- Ability to stay alert and focused for long periods
- Knowledge of basic fire prevention practices
- Able to stand for extended hours
- Must pass any required site screening, including drug testing
- Basic PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, FR shirt (site dependent), gloves, steel-toe boots
- Reliable transportation to and from the jobsite
- Availability to work 6 days per week for the duration of the project
