I. ABOUT MELODY GLOBAL

Melody Global is an emerging institutional investment adviser that manages portfolios of equity, fixed income, and alternative assets. Melody’s systematic investment philosophy brings together fundamental principles and quantitative tools. We focus on generating attractive risk-adjusted relative returns through dynamic capital allocation and disciplined risk management.  

II. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Investment Research & Analysis

o Support the CIO in investment research and portfolio management

o Quantitative research: options structuring, signal backtests, stationarity assessment

o Fundamental research: financial modeling, valuation, and qualitative risk evaluation

o Systematic alpha engineering: industry taxonomies, ratio formulation, position sizing

o Gain expertise in multiple asset classes: equities, fixed income, derivatives, alternatives

o Assist with asset allocation methodology and implementation

o Develop and maintain Python-based tools for market data analysis and signal research

o Evaluate external managers and analyze investment baskets such as ETFs/mutual funds 

o Monitor macroeconomic, markets, and company newsflow to develop investing themes

o Support regular scenario analysis and ad hoc market or macro study deep-dives

Trading & Portfolio Monitoring

o Execute equity, fixed income, options, and other trades

o Develop efficient strategies to optimize for market liquidity and prevent trade signaling

o Master trading software (order management and execution management software)

o Monitor gross/net exposures, sector concentrations, and factor risks in real time

o Assist in building and maintaining risk dashboards used by the investment team

o Support the operations team in designing and testing the performance and exposure analytics framework across public and private market strategies

o Conduct performance attribution and trade-level outcome analysis

Financial Systems Engineering

o Maintain Vercel environment for portfolio construction, security selection, backtesting, and visualization of market opportunities and risks

o Build Python and Excel tools to automate data ingestion and analysis workflows

o Manage data pipelines for pricing, reference data, and portfolio analytics

o Own and upgrade libraries containing accounting, financial ratio, and portfolio logic

Communication

o Prepare slides to share investment strategies, philosophy, process, and performance with clients and prospects

o Support CIO in meetings with clients and prospective clients

o Prepare materials for macro and markets presentations and investor letters

o Represent the investment team effectively on cross-functional projects with sales & marketing, operations, and legal & compliance personnel

III. WHAT WILL MAKE YOU A GREAT FIT FOR THIS ROLE

• Natural talent at math and statistics — some higher mathematics are a plus, but being good at mental math, estimating, and having a sense of proportion are essential

• Already an Excel / Python data science wizard or able to dive in and become one quickly

• Able to multitask and bring speed and focus to simultaneously important initiatives

• High-standard work & attention to detail — you see and fix errors in high-pressure moments

• Ownership mentality, you persist until work is complete because you care deeply about its quality and timeliness 

• Well-developed judgment with the ability to distinguish the critical from the trivial

• You have good forecasting instincts – you are often right about things; about how things will turn out, what will happen next, how conditions will result in outcomes, about the flow of time and probable end-states

• You are a builder and engineer and empiricist, not just a thinker

• Assured and confident (but not Dunning-Kruger confident) — you can see yourself one day putting $100 million behind a high-conviction investment theme

• Excellent writer, slide designer, oral presenter, communicator

• Bachelor’s degree in a field that honed critical reasoning skills (advanced degrees a plus)

• Traditional industry experience is not required, but formal or “on the side” time in financial markets is a must; we are seeking a driven professional with a unique mind and gifts

• Experience with one or more of the following will be a plus: financial statement analysis, accounting, finance, personal investing, economic analysis, options and derivatives, venture capital, real estate, equities, fixed income, portfolio attribution, risk decomposition, trading platforms (OMS/EMS), dashboard-building, complex models

• Industry certifications such as a CFA, CAIA, or similar, or intent to obtain one of these

IV. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Financial compensation will be a competitive base salary for an investment analyst role with an additional performance-based bonus. The benefits package will also include health insurance, 401k match, and other benefits.
