CFO/Controller

Melo Roofing is one of Central New York’s fastest-growing exterior construction companies, known for quality craftsmanship, operational excellence, and exceptional customer experience. We are scaling a rapidly enterprise, and are seeking a seasoned financial leader to help guide our next phase of growth and lead and help build the accounting team.

This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on Controller or emerging CFO who wants to build financial infrastructure from the ground up — not just maintain it.

Position Overview

The Controller/CFO will own all aspects of financial management, from day-to-day accounting operations to long-term strategic planning. You’ll lead budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow analysis, and ensure compliance while serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and leadership team.

This role requires both precision and vision — someone who can dive into QuickBooks one moment and advise on capital allocation, tax strategy, or multi-brand financial modeling the next.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions, including AP/AR, payroll, job costing, and month-end close
• Develop and manage financial reporting systems that provide clear insight into company performance
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
• Manage and mentor accounting staff and coordinate with third-party CPA firms
• Build cash-flow models, budgets, and rolling forecasts to guide leadership decisions
• Drive cost controls, margin optimization, and operational efficiency across all divisions
• Assist with tax planning, entity structure, and long-term wealth preservation strategies
• Support future expansion, acquisitions, and multi-brand financial integrations
• Establish internal controls and standard operating procedures to safeguard assets

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred)
• 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally within construction, trades, or service-based industries
• Proven experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets and complex cash cycles
• Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial analysis, and forecasting
• Exceptional communication and leadership skills
• High integrity, confidentiality, and a bias for action

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or CMA certification
• Experience implementing new financial systems or ERP integrations
• Strong Excel and financial modeling skills
• Familiarity with job-cost accounting and cost-segregation principles
• Ability to collaborate cross-departmentally (sales, production, HR, operations)

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
