What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Support & Maintenance Technician (2nd shift) position at Melling Tool Co?
SUMMARY
Technical Support Team consists of three different disciplines:
- Tooling set up and set up repair. Knowledge of how to operate all equipment, maintain tooling; set tooling in equipment, repair of set up problems, ability to train others to set up equipment, knowledge of safety components and guarding, conduct first and last piece to verify set up, work with tooling and maintaining equipment, ability to assist operators and/or other personnel as necessary. Equipment including but not limited to: CNC benders, end formers, welders, stamping presses, tubing cutters, laser etcher, and pressure testers.
- Tool & Die Maker/Repair. Analyze specifications; layout dimensions to cut metal and other stock; set up and operate machine tools; fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges; build prototype products, machinist tools and all other tooling type tasks. Ability to help cell operators with repairs and/or set up, assist with set up and maintenance as necessary.
- Maintenance. Install, maintain, repair, and operate all equipment, including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, safety and building maintenance. Ability to assist cell operators as necessary, assist with set up and tooling as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicates on a regular basis with the Manufacturing Manager. Follows directives from manager to meet tooling, maintenance and other technical support requirements and/or other similar activities.
- Assist in planning, developing and implementing new process’ or procedures to improve manufacturing capabilities, reduce waste, improve safety and quality, or improve environmental objectives.
- Participate on the Emergency Response Team, Safety Committee, or other groups to assist in the continual improvement of the company, if needed.
- Work with other employees to assist and train them in their activities and investigate and interpret findings to draw conclusions for correcting problems while remaining professional at all times.
- Completes records and reports as applicable.
- Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
- Operates equipment as appropriate to skills and training for the production of prototype parts, tooling, gages, and dies.
- Responsible for keeping work area clean and the clean up after work is performed in other areas of the plant.
- Successful completion of all training programs as required by the company.
- Actively participates in Six S/continual improvement activities.
- Adheres to company policies, rules and procedures.
- May be required to bring own basic tools. Large and specialty tools will be provided by the company.
- Must adhere to all MISOHA safety standards and company safety requirements.
- Knowledgeable of and supports Human Resource, Quality and Safety/Environmental policies & practices. Strives for continuous improvement in their area of expertise and job function that results in better cost, quality, or functionality of the products we deliver to our customers

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- No supervisory responsibilities
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- A machinist or tool and die maker shall have a college and/or other certified metal working program certificate or four years related experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience. Knowledge and/or experience with metal working equipment are required.
- Welding experience or formal metallurgical education preferred.
- Ability to perform basic computer skills, access the company intranet, and to perform the essential computer functions as required.
- Must have SPC (Statistical Process Control knowledge), and/or ability to learn, comprehend and apply basic requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Work in a manufacturing environment
