Patient Access Representative

JOB SUMMARY:

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for the accurate and efficient registration of patients entering the hospital or clinic for inpatient, outpatient clinic visit, specialty care, or emergency services. This role ensures all demographic, insurance, and billing information is collected correctly, while providing a high level of customer service and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Patient Registration:
  • Greet and register patients for hospital services including admissions, outpatient visits, and emergency care.
  • Obtain and verify patient identification, demographic data, insurance details, and physician orders.
• Insurance Verification & Pre-Authorization:
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits at the time of registration.
  • Collect co-pays, deductibles, and provide cost estimates as needed.
  • Screening and application processing for Hospital Discounted Care
• Documentation & Data Entry:
  • Accurately enter patient information into the hospital’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of registration records for billing and compliance purposes.
• Customer Service:
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Address patient inquiries regarding registration, insurance, and hospital policies.
• Compliance & Confidentiality:
  • Adhere to HIPAA and all hospital policies regarding patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Follow internal procedures for financial assistance, emergency registrations, and consent forms.

QUALIFICATIONS:

      MINIMUM:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience in a healthcare or customer service setting, preferably in registration or admissions.
• Basic understanding of medical insurance, billing, and HIPAA regulations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (e.g., Athena).
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

       PREFERRED

• Bilingual (e.g., Spanish/English) highly preferred due to patient population.
• Experience in hospital or clinic setting.
• Familiarity with medical terminology.

MELISSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: 

Melissa Memorial Hospital is a 15-bed critical access hospital, located in Holyoke, Colorado. While being “rural” we are equipped for any situation. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, ECHO, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general & orthopedic surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.
