Job Summary
As a Funeral Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing support and assistance during funeral services, ensuring that all arrangements run smoothly and respectfully. You will work closely with funeral directors, families, and other staff members to coordinate various aspects of funeral ceremonies, memorial services, and visitations. Your compassion, attention to detail, and professionalism will contribute to creating a comforting and dignified atmosphere for grieving families and their loved ones.
Schedule (schedule rotation to be determined by employer)
- Monday through Friday - One day off each week
- Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Rotation of weekends, night call, and holidays
Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup and arrangement of funeral venues, including chapels, reception areas, and gravesites.
- Safely and respectfully transfer deceased individuals using proper equipment and protocols.
- Interact professionally with grieving families, hospital staff, hospice workers, and law enforcement.
- Provide logistical support during funeral services, such as organizing floral arrangements, setting up audiovisual equipment, and distributing printed materials.
- Help maintain cleanliness and orderliness of facilities before, during, and after services.
- Run errands as required, such as picking up flowers, documents, or other necessary items.
- Maintain the funeral home's car fleet, including regular cleaning, fueling, and scheduling maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of grieving families at all times.
- Uphold professional standards of conduct and appearance, reflecting the dignity and solemnity of the occasion.
- Follow all health, safety, and legal compliance standards.
- Participate in on-call rotation schedule.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to regularly climb, sit, stand, bend, kneel, and frequently lift up to 75 pounds, and may be required to lift up to 100 pounds.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Compassionate and empathetic demeanor, with a genuine desire to provide comfort and support to grieving families.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities.
- Flexibility to work on a rotation of evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by funeral schedules.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with office software applications.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
