Position Summary

As a Scientist – Product Safety, you will apply toxicology and human health risk assessment principles to help ensure the safety of Melaleuca’s ingredients and products throughout their lifecycle.

Working closely with Product Safety leadership and partners across R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Clinical Research, and other technical teams, you’ll evaluate scientific evidence, assess consumer exposure, identify potential risks, and translate complex science into clear, practical recommendations that support product innovation and consumer safety.

What You’ll Do

  • Assess Product Safety: Conduct safety assessments of ingredients, formulations, and finished products using toxicological data, scientific literature, exposure information, and other relevant evidence.
  • Evaluate Risk & Exposure: Apply toxicology and human health risk assessment principles to characterize hazards, evaluate consumer exposure, and determine safe conditions of use.
  • Interpret the Science: Search and critically evaluate scientific literature and toxicological data, applying weight-of-evidence approaches to identify data gaps and develop scientifically sound conclusions.
  • Enable Product Innovation: Partner with formulators and product development teams to identify safety considerations early, recommend appropriate testing or risk mitigation, and help advance safe products from concept through commercialization.
  • Support Post-Market Safety: Evaluate adverse events, product complaints, and emerging scientific issues to identify potential safety signals and support appropriate follow-up.
  • Communicate with Impact: Prepare clear, scientifically defensible safety documentation and translate complex technical findings into actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical partners.

What You Bring

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • Ph.D. with 0–3 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 2–5 years of experience in toxicology, product safety, human health risk assessment, or a related field.
  • Strong foundation in toxicology, including the relationship between hazard, dose, exposure, and risk.
  • Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and toxicological data and develop evidence-based conclusions.
  • Strong scientific writing, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced product development environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in consumer products, personal care/cosmetics, household products, dietary supplements, food, pharmaceuticals, or related industries.
  • Experience conducting ingredient, formulation, or finished-product safety assessments and exposure assessments.
  • Familiarity with modern safety assessment approaches such as weight-of-evidence, read-across, TTC, in silico methods, NAMs, or other relevant approaches.
  • Familiarity with U.S. and international consumer product safety requirements and guidance, including MoCRA, EU cosmetic requirements/SCCS guidance, or California Proposition 65.
  • Experience evaluating adverse events or other post-market safety information.
