SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE
Megawatt Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead mission-critical data center fit-out projects within colocation facilities across the United States. Our projects focus on the construction and deployment of highly technical MEP infrastructure that powers and cools critical IT environments, including tenant improvements, white-space deployments, data hall expansions, and capacity upgrades within active facilities.
The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for leading one or more projects from preconstruction through turnover, serving as the primary client contact while overseeing project teams, subcontractors, procurement, scheduling, and financial performance. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in mission-critical construction, complex MEP systems, and delivering projects within operational data center environments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead the planning, execution, and closeout of mission-critical data center fit-out projects, including white-space deployments, tenant improvements, data hall buildouts, and critical infrastructure upgrades within colocation facilities.
- Manage projects involving complex electrical, mechanical, plumbing, controls, and commissioning scopes supporting critical facility operations.
- Develop, monitor, and maintain project budgets, schedules, forecasts, procurement plans, and resource allocations.
- Serve as the primary client interface, building trusted relationships with colocation operators, tenants, landlords, and design teams.
- Oversee subcontractor procurement, contract administration, change management, and performance throughout project execution.
- Lead design coordination, constructability reviews, and value engineering efforts with engineers, consultants, vendors, and client stakeholders.
- Coordinate project activities within active mission-critical facilities, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations and strict adherence to site procedures.
- Manage procurement and delivery of critical equipment, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, PDUs, CRAH units, cooling infrastructure, controls systems, and associated MEP equipment.
- Partner closely with commissioning teams to support startup, integrated systems testing (IST), turnover, and client acceptance.
- Ensure compliance with company safety programs, quality standards, and project-specific operational requirements.
- Mentor and provide leadership to Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, and field teams.
- Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and proactively resolve schedule, budget, and technical challenges.
- Prepare and present project financials, forecasts, executive reporting, and client-facing project updates.
- Support business development efforts by cultivating client relationships and identifying opportunities for repeat work and program expansion.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 10 years of commercial construction project management experience.
- Minimum of 5 years managing mission-critical, data center, or highly technical MEP-intensive construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience delivering tenant improvement, fit-out, retrofit, expansion, or infrastructure upgrade projects within operating data centers.
- Strong understanding of critical power systems, mechanical cooling systems, commissioning processes, and mission-critical construction methodologies.
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders, fast-track schedules, and complex procurement requirements.
- Experience managing MEP subcontractors, equipment vendors, and commissioning agents.
- Proficiency with Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar project management software.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel nationally and work on-site as project requirements dictate.
