Director of Patient Access & Revenue Cycle
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced healthcare leader to oversee Patient Access and Revenue Cycle operations. This individual will be responsible for driving operational excellence, improving financial performance, enhancing the patient experience, and ensuring compliance across registration, billing, and revenue cycle functions.
This role requires a strategic leader who can collaborate across clinical, finance, coding, revenue integrity, and IT teams to optimize revenue capture, improve collections, and strengthen overall revenue cycle performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction for Patient Access and Revenue Cycle departments.
- Lead change management initiatives and support staff through organizational transitions.
- Oversee daily department operations, staffing, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and patient-focused work environment.
- Recruit, develop, coach, and evaluate staff performance.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, state regulations, and federal requirements.
Revenue Cycle Management
- Monitor and improve revenue cycle performance, including registration accuracy, collections, denials, and reimbursement.
- Ensure timely completion of charge reconciliation processes.
- Lead denial reduction initiatives through root cause analysis and process improvement.
- Implement and oversee denial management and corrective action plans.
- Drive efforts to reduce bill hold days and improve revenue capture.
- Collaborate with coding, billing, clinical, and revenue integrity teams to optimize documentation and reimbursement.
Patient Access & Financial Performance
- Improve point-of-service collections and patient financial communication.
- Support financial assistance and patient billing education initiatives.
- Ensure registration accuracy and timely patient access processes.
- Utilize Epic dashboards, reports, and work queues to monitor performance and improve outcomes.
- Lead efforts to enhance patient satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Reporting & Analytics
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
- Registration accuracy
- Registration wait times
- Denial rates
- Collection performance
- Cash flow metrics
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for senior leadership.
- Lead revenue cycle meetings and present departmental performance metrics.
- Provide recommendations and action plans based on performance trends.
Compliance & Quality Improvement
- Lead audits related to Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ) and other revenue cycle functions.
- Develop and implement corrective action plans as needed.
- Utilize Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles to enhance processes and outcomes.
- Ensure ongoing staff education, competency assessments, and annual recertifications.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge of patient registration processes, revenue cycle operations, and healthcare billing regulations.
- Understanding of federal and state healthcare reimbursement requirements, including Charity Care programs.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
- Proficiency with healthcare information systems and computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of healthcare management or leadership experience.
- Experience with Epic and revenue cycle performance reporting preferred.
