Physical Therapist - Outpatient/Aquatic

I. Position Summary:

 

Administers medically prescribed physical therapy programs and treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of body

part. Directs and supervises employees of the department in the assigned work

areas and participates in interdisciplinary care within the department and the

hospital.

 

II. Position Relationships:

 

A. Responsible to: Director of PM&R, Sports Medicine Program Manager and Lead Sports Medicine PT

 

B. Workers Supervised: Licensed Physical Therapy Assistants, Athletic Trainers and Therapy Aides

 

C. Inter-relationships: Works closely with physicians and nurses, constant contact with patients and families, and other departmental and hospital employees.

 

 

III. Responsibilities and Authorities:

 

A. Overall:

 

Plans Physical Therapy programs for each patient through evaluation and assessment of patient needs, as prescribed by physicians. Has the

authority to recommend disciplinary action pertaining to employees

supervised. Complies with the standards set forth in the Texas Physical

Therapy Practice Act.

 

B. Work Performed:

1. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.

 

2. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.

4. Participates in and promotes “The Customer” service philosophy of Greet, Value, Ask, Listen, Help, and Invite Back.

 

5. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

 

6. Administers medically prescribed physical therapy programs and treatments.

 

7. Evaluates, plans, and coordinates treatments for patients in assigned areas.

 

8. Directs and supervises activities of assistants and aides in assigned areas and sees that all maintain high standards of professionalism.

 

9. Participates in educational and training programs for necessary personnel.

 

10. Prepares work assignments for personnel in assigned areas.

 

11. Completes medical documentation in an accurate and timely manner consistent with rules and regulations.

 

12. Attends hospital meetings and committee work as assigned.

 

13. Participates in rotating to necessary areas, setting will include but not limited to outpatient, wound care, rehab, acute care, and long term acute care, to provide treatment coverage to patients where needed, to include aquatic therapy.

IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:

B. Demonstrates independence in performing daily duties and does so in a timely manner.

 

C. Demonstrates proficiency in Physical Therapy techniques, and is responsible for self-growth and learning.

 

 

D. Demonstrates ability to plan and coordinate treatment area for self and those supervised.

 

E. Demonstrates skills in decision making for interacting with patients, family members, peers, physicians, and hospital staff.

 

F. Demonstrates good supervisory skills.

 

G. Role model – reflects professional attitude and work ethics through attendance, appearance, and behavior.

 

H. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively; follows appropriate channels of communication.

 

V. Qualifications:

 

A. Education:

1. Bachelor’s or higher from an accredited Physical Therapy program

2. Current Texas licensure or eligibility as a Physical Therapist.

3. Current BLS Certification.

 

B. Job Knowledge:

1. Knowledge of procedures involved in physical therapy with emphasis on human anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology.

2. Knowledge of aquatic therapy (preferred but not necessary).

3. Must have understanding of basic supervisory principles.

 

VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

A. Patient lifting and transferring.

B. Lifting and pushing of heavy and light equipment.

C. Constant standing and walking
