Summary of Function:

The Automation Technician will work with the engineering and production teams in support of automation, robots, vision systems, EOAT, fixtures and related equipment. This position will provide and support production with design, integration, troubleshooting, programming, repairs and maintenance of all automation equipment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide machine set up and process support for all production processes
  • Clean, stage and tear down automation equipment (with extreme care and attention) to meet production needs
  • Communicate in an effective and timely manner any equipment issues/breakdowns to the maintenance department
  • Communicate in an effective and timely manner any automation issues to Manufacturing Technology Leader and Production Managers
  • Practice safety awareness and safe work practices
  • Resets, homing, and tooling changes
  • Minor modification to automation equipment
  • Create and modify basic robot programs (Fanuc & Arburg)
  • Understanding of all types of proximity switches and I/O sensors.
  • Setup and teaching of vision systems to detect part presence and part defects
  • Work with production teams to continuously improve automation and vision systems
  • PLC and HMI programming and editing
  • Setup, trouble-shooting and maintenance of EOAT and related air/vacuum systems
  • Follow clean room and safety protocols and procedures
  • Understanding of IP addresses, Ethernet networks and IOT 4.0.
  • Responsible for maintaining spare components

Organizational Relationships:

The Automation Technician reports directly to the Manufacturing Technology Leader for daily work priorities, projects, and technical direction and training. Team Supervisors and the Production Manager can provide the scheduling priorities for the Automation Technician.

Experience and/or Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Prefer a two-year training certificate or Associates Degree in controls-related subject
  • Attended advanced training courses in PLC programing, vision systems, robotic systems, and maintenance courses
  • Preferred 5-10 years of experience dealing with automation equipment
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong written/verbal communication, leadership, interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Understanding of ISO and FDA/GMP regulations with regard to production processes and documentation practices
  • Knowledge of Fanuc and Arburg robots
  • Injection molding experience
  • Electrical blueprint reading
  • Basic vision system knowledge (Cognex, Data Logic)
  • Knowledge of PLC logic and programing
  • Lathe/milling experience

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work a standard 40 hour work week with occasional overtime including weekends as a possibility. Sitting and/or standing for an extended period of time as well as some walking within the facility. Must be able to see with or without corrective lenses and distinguish color differences and depth perception for product and safety issues. Hearing ability should be sufficient to hear and react to audible alarms from distances up to 100 feet. The ability lift and carry various items up to 70 pounds.
