Petroleum Technician

Overview

We are seeking a motivated Petroleum Service Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial fueling equipment and petroleum systems. This position works directly with customers to diagnose equipment issues, complete repairs, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure fueling systems remain safe and operational.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, be comfortable working independently in the field, and have a willingness to learn specialized petroleum equipment and technology. Prior petroleum service experience is preferred, but candidates with relevant electrical, mechanical, HVAC, automotive, industrial maintenance, or technical service experience are encouraged to apply.

Duties

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain petroleum fueling equipment at commercial, municipal, fleet, and retail fueling locations.
• Install and service fuel point-of-sale systems, dispenser electronics, automatic tank guages, pumps, motors, valves, meters, hoses, nozzles, and related fueling components.
• Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, mechanical, and communication-related equipment issues.
• Service fuel management systems, point-of-sale equipment, tank monitoring systems, and other petroleum-related electronic equipment.
• Install, configure, test, and start up new equipment and replacement components.
• Diagnose equipment failures and determine the appropriate repair, replacement parts, or additional work required.
• Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment issues, completed repairs, and recommended corrective actions.
• Document service calls accurately, including technician notes, materials used, equipment information, and work performed.
• Maintain an organized service vehicle and ensure commonly used parts, tools, and equipment are properly stocked and secured.
• Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe work area while working around petroleum products, electrical equipment, and active fueling facilities.
• Coordinate with dispatch, service management, parts personnel, and other technicians as necessary to complete service calls.
• Participate in manufacturer and industry training to develop knowledge of petroleum equipment and service procedures.
• Travel to customer locations throughout the assigned service territory. Some overnight and out-of-town travel may be required, with applicable travel expenses provided by the company.
• Participate in an after-hours or on-call rotation as required.

Experience

• Previous petroleum equipment service experience is preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, electronic, or industrial equipment is highly desirable.
• Experience with fuel dispensers, automatic tank gauges, fuel management systems, point-of-sale systems, or similar equipment is a plus.
• Experience using electrical meters, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools is preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose equipment problems systematically.
• Ability to communicate professionally with customers, supervisors, and other technicians.
• Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple service calls and priorities.
• Willingness to continually learn new equipment, technology, and troubleshooting procedures.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including bending, lifting, stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and carrying.
• Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs independently.
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and grow within the industry.
• Basic computer and technology skills for working with service software, electronic equipment, and manufacturer diagnostic systems.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical documentation. Experience reading schematics is preferred.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Must pass a drug screening.
