Petroleum Construction Technician

Overview

Provide hands-on support for various construction site operations. This role primarily assists experienced trade workers by performing physical labor, preparing materials, and supporting equipment setup. Tasks range from basic labor duties to more complex and potentially hazardous assignments. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to safety, and a willingness to learn specialized aspects of petroleum installation.

Duties

• Assist with petroleum installation projects, including underground storage tanks, fiberglass and flexible fuel piping, pipe fittings, and full fuel system installations or remodels.
• Serve as a spotter and safely direct heavy equipment operators (e.g., track hoes and loaders) during excavation activities.
• Operate small construction equipment such as skid steer loaders.
• Cut, thread, and fit steel pipe; assist with installation of underground and above-ground tanks.
• Support with grade shooting and job documentation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site in accordance with company and foreman direction.
• Ensure all required signage, safety barricades, and protective devices are properly installed and maintained.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain accountability for tools, ensuring they are cleaned, organized, and secured on trucks or job trailers.
• Help manage and maintain accurate job inventory.
• Travel to job sites Monday through Friday; some overnight and out-of-town travel is required (per diem and travel expenses provided by the company).

Experience

• Prior experience working in petroleum construction or related heavy industry environments is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to operate basic construction tools and machinery safely and effectively.
• Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors on-site.
• Willingness to work in challenging outdoor conditions, including exposure to weather extremes.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including bending, lifting, stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and carrying.
• Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs independently.
• Ability to stand and walk for up to 90% of the workday.
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and grow within the industry.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Basic math, measurement, and mechanical aptitude required.
• Ability to read blueprints is preferred but not required.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Must pass a drug screening.
