More About The Role
This is a full-time position primarily assigned to the Monroe Road Recycling Park but will occasionally assist at other recycling centers as needed. Duties will involve general outdoor labor and assisting customers with recycling inquiries along with overall site cleanliness.
Please note the full-time hours will require Friday and Saturday work shifts.
Position Summary
Monitors the safe delivery and disposal of solid waste at assigned transfer station or landfill. This
position, under direct supervision, is responsible for performing manual labor and ensuring safety procedures are followed at transfer site or landfill to load/unload trash, debris and junked furniture and appliances.
Essential Functions
Work assignments in accordance with close supervision and specific instructions on new
assignments;
Perform repetitive tasks under general supervision after they are learned;
May drive a vehicle to and from work locations or to pick up and deliver materials;
Assist in directing traffic flow of vehicles entering a solid waste facility to the proper area to unload
Assure that materials remain in the area and are not hauled away as salvage
Interact with customers to direct to proper disposal locations.
May perform vehicle load inspections and monitors incoming loads for unacceptable materials
Keep work area clean and free of debris to prevent damage to incoming vehicles
May build, maintain or erect signs at solid waste facilities to direct traffic
Assist with cleaning and maintenance of trucks and tools
Load and unloads heavy material from trucks, equipment, and vans
Move and aid in moving large and bulky objects
Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, mowing grass, and
cleaning
Work safely and report unsafe situations to supervisory staff
May operate non-CDL required vehicles as needed
Experience
Minimum Qualifications
Education
No experience required.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes
Licenses and Certifications
May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
May require the ability to obtain and maintain County driving privilege's
Preferred Qualifications
Preferably some working knowledge of trade methods and practices, or ability to readily learn the use of tools and materials, work methods and work practices and use and operation of related equipment;
Ability to follow written and oral instructions;
Ability to make simple arithmetical computations and perform routine maintenance tasks;
Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships;
Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of
Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
Basic tools used in maintenance and construction work
Skills
Operating light powered tools, such as drills, mowers, blowers and other assigned equipment
Performing heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
Understanding of safety
Skill with fueling and mixing oil and gas for small equipment
Abilities
Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures
