Job Overview
Meals on Wheels of Asheville & Buncombe County is seeking an experienced and energetic person to join our kitchen team.
We prepare approximately 700 nutritious meals each weekday for homebound seniors.
Position is for morning hours, approximately 6:00 AM to 11 AM, Monday through Friday.
Must be able to assist with all aspects of the kitchen to include cook, prep, pack, wash dishes and clean.
Must be able to lift approximately 25 pounds, push 50 pounds and stand for periods of time.
Previous food service experience in restaurant and/or catering required.
ServSafe certication is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients and components for daily menu items, including chopping, slicing, dicing, and portioning with precision and speed
- Follow recipes accurately to ensure consistency and quality in every dish prepared
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including knives, mixers, ovens, and food processors
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, adhering to strict sanitation standards throughout the shift
- Assist with food plating and presentation to meet established standards
- Support the cooking team during meal service by providing timely ingredient prep and station setup
- Follow all safety protocols related to food handling, storage, and equipment use to ensure a safe working environment
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a dietary department or dietary aide role is highly desirable
- Demonstrated food preparation and cooking skills, including knife techniques such as slicing and dicing
- Knowledge of food safety management practices and adherence to safety standards in production environments
- Experience operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently in a restaurant or food industry setting
- Strong communication skills for effective coordination with kitchen staff
- Familiarity with menu planning, recipe adherence, and meal preparation processes
- Ability to work quickly under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards
