Description
An Assistant Teacher at Mara Family Daycare is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment. Additionally, an Assistant Teacher is responsible to work together with a Lead Teacher and in conjunction with the entire faculty.
General Qualifications
An Assistant Teacher must meet the qualifications of his/her state and those set forth in the National Standards for hiring (see www.bls.gov), including the following:
- Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid.
- Ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved.
- Ability to respond immediately to emergency situations.
All candidates, who wish to be considered for the position of Assistant Teacher must meet one or more of the following criteria, in addition to any/all requirements that may be mandated by their state and/or local licensing authorities:
- An Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field Preferred
- A current CDA or Early Childhood Teaching Credential preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides a safe environment to prevent and reduce injuries.
- Promotes good health and nutrition and provides an environment that contributes to the prevention of illness.
- Uses space, relationships, materials, and routines as resources for constructing an interesting, secure, and enjoyable environment that encourages play, exploration, and learning.
- Provides activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the development levels and learning styles of children.
- Actively communicates with children; provides opportunities and support for children to understand, acquire and use verbal and nonverbal means of communicating.
- Actively participate and support the Annual Giving Campaign.
All other miscellaneous duties and projects
Qualifications
- Work closely with the Lead Teacher in developing, planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating a developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
- Plan and supervise small-group activities under the supervision and guidance of the Lead Teacher.
- Respond to individual children and small groups while keeping in mind the needs of the larger group.
- Attend to children's physical and emotional needs, including maintenance of proper staff-child ratios, adequate supervision of children, and maintenance of classroom health and safety standards.
Perform routine housekeeping duties in the classroom as requested by the Lead Teacher.
Fulfill the general responsibilities of employment with the Meadowlands Area YMCA.
There will be a 90-day probation period with a 3-month evaluation followed by evaluations every year.
Salary : $16 - $17
