- As a Camp Counselor at Meadowlands Area YMCA, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and enriching environment for campers. You will be responsible for guiding and mentoring campers through various activities, fostering personal growth, teamwork, and a sense of community. Your leadership and enthusiasm will help shape memorable experiences for campers, ensuring they have a positive and impactful summer camp experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and engage with campers during daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Plan and lead a variety of camp activities, including sports, arts and crafts, nature exploration, and team-building exercises.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, inclusivity, and good sportsmanship.
- Facilitate group discussions and encourage camper participation to promote learning and personal development.
- Assist in the setup and cleanup of camp facilities and equipment, maintaining a clean and organized environment.
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members, addressing any concerns or issues promptly and professionally.
- Monitor camper behavior and implement strategies to address any conflicts or challenges, promoting a harmonious camp atmosphere.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to continually improve skills and contribute to the overall success of the camp program.

Required Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Some college coursework in education, recreation, or a related field is preferred.
Required Experience:
- At least 1 year of experience working with children in a camp, educational, or recreational setting.
- Previous experience in a leadership role, such as a team leader or assistant counselor, is preferred.
- Experience in planning and leading activities for groups of children.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with children, parents, and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when necessary.
- Excellent organizational skills to plan and execute daily activities and schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve conflicts in a positive and effective manner.
- Ability to maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
- CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
