Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing the daily operations of the assisted living nursing department. The ADON ensures high‑quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and effective communication across departments, while promoting a safe, respectful, and homelike environment for residents.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Oversight
Assist the Director of Nursing with daily nursing operations in assisted living and memory care
Provide clinical oversight to nursing staff, including LPNs, RAs/PCAs, and medication aides
Ensure residents receive care in accordance with individualized service plans and physician orders
Support infection prevention, medication management, and wellness monitoring
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
Assist with maintaining compliance with state assisted living regulations and company policies
Participate in surveys, audits, and Plan of Correction (POC) implementation
Conduct clinical audits, environmental rounds, and chart reviews
Support QAPI initiatives and monitor trends to improve care outcomes
Staff Supervision & Education
Provide guidance, coaching, and support to nursing staff
Assist with onboarding, orientation, competencies, and ongoing staff education
Ensure staffing coverage and support scheduling as needed
Promote accountability, teamwork, and professional standards
Resident Safety & Risk Management
Support elopement prevention, fall prevention, and resident safety initiatives
Ensure monitoring of doors, alarms, and safety systems
Address incidents, follow‑up investigations, and corrective actions
Collaborate with maintenance, housekeeping, and other departments as needed
Communication & Collaboration
Serve as a clinical resource for residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members
Communicate effectively with leadership regarding clinical concerns and operational needs
Support positive family relations and customer service excellence
Qualifications
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) – Active and in good standing
Minimum 2–3 years clinical nursing experience
Assisted living or long‑term care experience required
Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge of assisted living regulations and resident rights
Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to lead with professionalism, compassion, and accountability
