What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Food Services Assistants position at MDI Biological Laboratory?
The MDI Biological Laboratory seeks to hire two Food Services Assistants to aid with summer courses and conferences from May through September. Housing is available for selected candidates.
The Temporary Food Services Assistants are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and stock of the dining room and dining hall food stations, helping with catered events, stocking snacks in campus kitchens, washing dishes, helping keep the kitchen clean and basic meal preparation. The Temporary Food Services Assistants work under the Head Chef while assisting with food service tasks needed to serve meals in the dining hall.
Position Description
Dining Hall Cleaning and Stocking:
- Making sure the salad bar is fully stocked and cleaned for meal service
- Performing food preparations tasks for salad bar and meals, such as chopping vegetables and basic cooking.
- Cleaning and stocking the breakfast bar and coffee station
- Washing dining and cooking dishes
- Cleaning dining hall tables after each meal
- Sweeping and mopping dining room/bathroom floors
Catered Events and Campus Kitchens:
- Set up and breakdown catered events
- Stocking snack and coffee stations in campus kitchens
- Use of golf cart to safely transport items needed to restock kitchens and setup/breakdown of catered events
Basic Qualifications:
- Basic knife skills
- Experience in food service or cleaning position preferred but not required
- Ability to follow instructions
Special Position Requirements and/or Preferences:
- Be able to complete a large range of tasks
- Schedule and type of work will vary seasonally based on the needs of the dining hall for varied programs and events
- Cleaning skills
- Able to work independently and as a part of a team
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Self-motivated
Work Conditions:
- Physical endurance to stand for long periods of time
- Physically able to bend or kneel through shift and lift 25 pounds or more
