What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager II – Architecture & Construction position at mdg | m-design group?
About the Firm
We are a design-forward architecture studio operating at the intersection of high-end residential design and construction execution. Our work is rooted in the belief that great architecture is not just conceptual—it is built.
With deep experience in construction and fabrication, we approach every project with a construction-first mindset, rigorously testing design decisions against real-world execution. We collaborate closely with contractors, fabricators, and clients to deliver highly resolved, buildable, and exceptional spaces.
Our projects are complex, fast-moving, and detail-driven. We value clarity, accountability, and a shared commitment to excellence.
About the Role
We are seeking a Project Manager II to lead projects from design development through construction with a high level of ownership, precision, and leadership.
This is a dynamic and highly structured role for someone who thrives in both creative problem-solving and disciplined execution. You will be responsible for maintaining design integrity while ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and with full accountability across all stakeholders.
You will act as a key liaison between the design team, clients, and general contractors—driving decisions, managing complexity, and ensuring that every detail is resolved and built as intended.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Lead projects through Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Administration
- Own project timelines, deliverables, and internal coordination
- Maintain alignment between design intent and construction execution
Construction Oversight
- Conduct regular site visits and produce detailed field reports
- Oversee General Contractor performance, schedule, and coordination
- Review shop drawings and submittals with a focus on constructability and design integrity
- Proactively identify and resolve field conditions and conflicts

- Lead meetings with clarity, structure, and confidence
- Communicate progress, decisions, and risks effectively
Documentation & Coordination
- Produce and oversee highly coordinated drawing sets
- Integrate consultant work (MEP, structural, expeditor) into project documentation
- Ensure all project information is accurate, current, and buildable
Financial & Billing Accountability
- Track project hours, scope, and fee burn
- Support invoicing and ensure alignment between work performed and billing
- Identify scope changes and communicate additional services clearly and proactively
What We’re Looking For
- 5–10 years of experience in high-end residential architecture
- Strong experience in Construction Administration and field coordination
- Deep understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and detailing
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable
- Excellent communication skills—clear, direct, and professional
- Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam, with strong working knowledge of Excel, Procore, and similar construction management platforms
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and complex projects simultaneously
How We Work
- We are process-driven and detail-obsessed—structure enables creativity
- We believe in “go slow to go fast”—decisions are intentional and well-coordinated
- We hold a high bar for construction observation, GC management, client communication, and billing discipline
- We operate as a single point of accountability for our clients
Why This Role
