We are seeking a Structural Engineer to support the design and engineering of cast-in-place and precast concrete structures, including high-capacity concrete storage tanks, footings, precast/prestressed building components, bridge elements, underground drainage and utility structures, and other specialty structures.
This position reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering and Design.
Position Summary
Primary responsibilities will be to design and prepare calculations for the design of Cast-in-place and precast concrete structures. Types of structures will include high-capacity concrete storage tanks, footings, precast/prestressed building components, bridge elements, underground drainage/utility structures, and other specialty structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare structural designs and calculations to be submitted for approval by customers and third-party reviewers.
- Prepare engineering details/drawings for and work closely with drafting team to ensure accurate and efficient completion of submittal drawings and production drawings.
- Maintain knowledge of all applicable design codes, standards, and requirements.
- Provide technical assistance/support to production and quality control teams.
- Provide to clients, production/construction teams, and managerial staff engineering requirements for construction of various designs, modifications, and structural repairs.
- Determine design criteria and standards for projects and structures when not given by project specifications.
- Assist sales team to determine project parameters used in the bidding process.
- Review and approve in-house and outside ready-mix concrete designs.
- Possess a thorough understanding of the quality control programs; observe and assist in maintaining the programs of all divisions.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of jump-form construction, buildings, bridges, box culverts, concrete pipe, retaining walls, storm/sanitary sewer structures, and other related precast concrete components.
- Observe and assist in maintaining and developing plant and drawings standards.
- Collaborate with architects and contractors to ensure efficient project progress.
- Collaborate with surveyors (or directs and participates in surveying) to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors that will affect construction.
- Observe safety testing or component load testing as required by projects.
- Participate in industry related associations and organizations.
- Maintain required continuing education for all licenses and certifications.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Structural Emphasis required.
- Licensure as professional engineer (PE) required.
- Must be familiar with applicable building codes, ASTM specifications, ACI specifications, and any other applicable codes used in concrete design.
- Must have a thorough understanding of company Quality Control Program (Construction and Products).
- Thorough understanding of structural engineering principles, practices, and tools.
- Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analysis software.
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to be both creative and analytical.
- Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
Travel & Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to travel to various project sites.
- Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
