Position Overview
Reporting to the Supervisor, Visitor Experience & Rentals, provides exceptional customer service to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.
Essential Job Functions

Built in the 1920s by artist and educator Marion Koogler McNay, the Spanish Colonial Revival residence became the site of Texas’ first modern art museum when it opened in 1954. Today, 200,000 visitors a year enjoy works by modern masters including Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Edward Hopper, Joan Mitchell, Alice Neel, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The 45,000-square-foot Jane & Arthur Stieren Center for Exhibitions, designed by internationally renowned French architect Jean-Paul Viguier, features major exhibitions annually. The 25 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds include sculptures by Willie Cole, Robert Indiana, Luis A. Jiménez Jr., Alejandro Martín, George Rickey, Joel Shapiro, Kiki Smith, Tom Wesselmann and others.

Essential Job Functions
- Acts as a visitor experience representative for the Museum offering exemplary customer service to all Museum visitors, guests, and members. Maintains an enthusiastic and responsive attitude toward all visitors, engaging with guests in an informed and professional manner.
- Monitors customer satisfaction levels by consistently asking questions and listening to customer feedback, questions, and concerns. Demonstrates sound judgment in respectfully and promptly addressing negative feedback, escalating extreme instances to direct supervisor, next-level manager, and/or security in a timely manner.
- Maintains current knowledge of all aspects of admission, allowable admission discounts / discount categories, and related pricing, as well as special exhibition and museum store promotions, to accurately inform visitors at the front desk.
- Stays abreast of various membership levels and benefits in order to better inform visitors. Through engaging conversations with visiting guests, identifies and secures membership upsell opportunities.
- Maintains knowledge of indoor and outdoor photography rules. Refers all indoor photography inquiries to Supervisor, Visitor Experience & Rentals for scheduling / pre-payment. Processes onsite payments for outdoor photography sessions. Issues payment receipts / proof of purchase for security.
- Opens and closes cash registers; perform tasks such as counting money, separating charge slips, coupons, and reconciling cash drawers at end of day/shift.
- Attends quarterly VEA trainings, as well as more frequents briefings as required, to stay well-informed about admissions and exhibitions pricing; security policies and procedures; indoor / outdoor photography rules; Museum Store promotions; and general customer service protocol
- Follows dress code policies and maintains a professional appearance at all times.
- Responsible for answering the general Museum Information phone line in a courteous and professional manner and assisting callers by either answering their questions or directing their inquiries to the appropriate department.
- Assists visitors with information on transportation options in the city (i.e. buses/taxis), restaurant recommendations, and directions.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Computer and POS knowledge preferred. Must be willing to learn applicable systems and apply skills gained as needed.
- Must have cash handling experience with strong math skills.
- Must have flexible hours as evening and weekend duty are required.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with members of a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and members of the general public
- Cheerful, outgoing, and professional personality
- Ability to function in a team-oriented environment
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years in customer service.
