General Description of the position:
The Caregiver is responsible for helping an assigned number of residents with their activities of daily living and assisting the Director of Resident Care Services with supplies, preparation and appropriate charting.
Essential functions: Assist in training of new staff as supervisor assigns. Responsible for attending to all care needs of the residents in their assigned sections, either scheduled, or as they arise. Check each resident at least every 2 hours. Change incontinent bedding. Redirect wandering residents. Take incontinent residents to the bathroom. Set-up table in preparation for meals. Assist with serving meals by bringing residents to the dining room and getting them started with their meals. Serve drinks and food to the residents. Verbally cue residents requiring assistance. All clean-up following meals, including clearing dishes off the tables and taking to the main kitchen, wipe down tables, chair seats, arms and backs, and clean floor. Pick up laundry from resident apartments using company procedure, rinse out soiled laundry and dispose of dirty laundry in the appropriate laundry barrel. Collect garbage from resident’s apartments daily. Immediately remove incontinent supplies that are wet or soiled. Take garbage to the dumpster as needed. Responsible for light clean-up of resident’s apartments on a daily basis. Assist with activities as requested or assigned. Follow HIPPA guidelines. Provide basic fingernail and toenail care on non-diabetic residents. Attendance is mandatory for in-service training and meetings. Learn proper use of fire extinguisher and know what your responsibilities are in case of fire. Keep a positive up-beat attitude and maintain open communication between Director of Resident Care Services and other personnel. Help maintain a safe, pleasant and clean environment. Monitor, address and share in a timely manner with the Director of Resident Care Services all resident’s and family needs and/or concerns. Notify Director of Resident Care Services of changes in resident’s health, dietary needs and behavior. Read communication log for all time lapsed since last shift and enter daily shift-to-shift report notes with off-going and on-coming shifts.
Responsible for daily charting and follow-up procedures. Daily charting in service schedule and Communication Log. Write incident reports and follow-up with report to Director of Resident Care Services before shift ends for incident reports. Keep close monitor with “At Risk” residents and complete appropriate follow-up charting. Check Service plans regularly for specific resident’s needs. Review and complete all adjustments to Service plans. Follow through with Service plans to be sure they are being followed and family concerns are addressed - report any deficiencies to Director of Resident Care Services.
Emergency Care and Procedures—Assess emergency situation and handle paperwork to send to keep in charts. Follow-up on any complaints made from resident or anyone else in regard to resident’s Bill of Rights and report to Director of Resident Care Services. Keep vitals up-to-date and taken as often as ordered or necessary. File paperwork in the appropriate place and in a timely manner. Welcome new residents. Get to know their likes and dislikes, and what is important to the family and residents in terms of care needs. Encourage residents to be independent. Understand the chain of command. Light housekeeping including replacing furniture to proper areas, vacuuming common areas. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Resident Care Services.
Routine Tasks: Peri-care on females (vaginal secretions). Handling soiled linen. Clean up of potentially contaminated fluids. Attending to an injury where blood is present. I understand that because of the above-mentioned routine tasks, I could be at potential risk for contracting a bloodborne pathogen, including but not limited to: non-A hepatitis, non-B hepatitis, hepatitis B (HBV), delta hepatitis, syphilis, malaria and/or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Therefore, the company will provide me with the appropriate training in Universal Precautions and OSHA’s Exposure Control Standards in order to minimize any possible exposure. They will further provide me with an HBV vaccination if I so choose. It will be my responsibility to adhere to all Exposure Control Policies as set forth by the company I have read the above and have received training on Bloodborne Pathogens. Working conditions: Sitting/Standing: up to 8 hours Lifting requirements: up to 200 lbs. with assistance. Knowledge, skills and abilities required: Must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with Residents, their families and other staff members. Equipment used: Office equipment including but not limited to: telephones, computers, copiers and printers. Occasional tasks may require the use of (but not limited to) lifts.
