Staff Accountant – Trust Operations

Manchester, NH | Full-Time | In-Office

Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 annually (based on experience)

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Accounting Manager, the Senior Staff Accountant / Payroll Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of payroll and core accounting functions. This individual will also contribute to financial reporting, budgeting, and process improvements, making this a well-rounded and impactful role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end payroll processing, including bi-weekly, monthly, and off-cycle payrolls
  • Administer and track Paid Time Off (PTO) in accordance with firm policies
  • Partner closely with Human Resources on payroll-related benefits, deductions, and reporting
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll, compensation, and benefits data
  • Prepare and upload 401(k) deferral files; support compliance testing and employer match calculations
  • Assist with annual budgeting, with a focus on compensation and various expense accounts
  • Contribute to month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including profit and loss reporting
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger account analysis
  • Support ad hoc financial analysis and special projects led by Finance leadership


Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 10 years of relevant payroll and accounting experience, ideally in a professional services environment
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll systems strongly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll compliance, reporting, and benefits coordination
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and solid overall systems aptitude
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism

Work Environment

This is a full-time, in-office position based in Manchester, NH. Flexibility is required during month-end and year-end close cycles.
