Position Overview:
The Pediatric Occupational Therapist works with children and adolescents to assess and treat developmental, physical, or cognitive challenges that affect their ability to perform everyday tasks, like dressing, eating, writing, social interaction or playing, by providing therapy sessions focused on improving emotional regulation skills, fine motor skills, sensory integration, cognitive abilities, and self-care skills, aiming to enhance their independence and participation in daily life activities often collaborating with parents and educators to implement strategies across different environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate patients' abilities, challenges, and needs related to daily activities, mobility, and cognitive function.
- Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the patient, their family, and the healthcare team.
- Provide therapeutic interventions aimed at improving fine motor skills, strength, coordination, and cognitive abilities.
- Educate patients and their families about adaptive techniques, assistive devices, and strategies to improve independence.
- Document patient progress and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner.
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, speech therapists, and other team members to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
- Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure continued improvement.
- Stay current with developments in occupational therapy practices, techniques, and certifications.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program and successfully pas the NBCOT exam.
- Current and valid state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
- One year of experience in occupational therapy in pediatrics preferred. New grads welcome.
- Strong understanding of a variety of occupational therapy techniques, assistive technologies, and adaptive equipment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop individualized treatment plans tailored to patients' unique needs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Current or willingness to obtain BLS certification
