PBX Operator

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The PBX Operator receives and relays incoming and outgoing telephone calls for the facility. They will provide directory information, transfers calls as appropriate, enter facility directory information into the computer database, make general and emergency announcements over the facility’s PA system, and handle the facility paging system.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operates an electronic switchboard to route incoming calls and to place outgoing calls.
- Knowledgeable of all departments and services available in the facility
- Acts in a professional manner at all times.
- Maintains a daily list of all facility staff on-call, including home phone numbers and beeper numbers readily available.
- Maintains current listing of all facility telephone numbers and extensions. Updates the computer database as needed.
- Provides directory information to internal and external inquirers.
- Able to place long distance calls and conference calls as needed.
- Knowledgeable of emergency codes to be used over the PA system
- Demonstrates the ability to be organized and flexible in stressful situations.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
- Maintains a working knowledge of all equipment used.
- Maintains and replaces supplies in the assigned area.
- As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages are preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including ability to navigate electronic medical record systems.
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
- May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends holidays when necessary.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One to three (1-3) years’ experience as a switchboard operator.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Basic computer knowledge, data entry and/or word processing.
- Prior experience in clinic setting preferred but not required.
