Summary

The Material Handler Lead is responsible for oversight of the safe and proper handling of bulk liquid offloading and filtration processes. The Material Handler Lead will be the “go to” person of these processes by either performing the required tasks or directing others to do them safely and correctly.

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Carries out all responsibilities in compliance with company policies, procedures, and state, federal, and local laws. Fully complies with current Good Manufacturing Practice’s (GMP’s) and health and safety regulations.

  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.

    Ensures all tasks associated with “receiving” incoming delivery of bulk liquid are completed, including but not limited to the setup of traffic control, availability of all PPE and proper placement of safety equipment.

  • Ensures all internal connection, disconnection, and filling procedures are performed safely and according to SOP.

  • Directs the movement of filled totes from filling station to weighing area.

  • Weighs and records weight of each filled tote during the receiving process and filtration process.

  • Directs the movement of weighed totes to the next designated area which may be filtration area, warehouse, or another area based on the quality of raw ingredient received.

  • Ensures all tasks associated with the filtration process are set up and completed correctly and safely.

  • Communicates with Quality Control personnel to ensure sampling is conducted at the required intervals throughout the receiving and filtration processes.

  • Inspects and monitors fueling and filtration system equipment to identify potential or existing mechanical failures or preventing the system from working at maximum efficiency. This includes watching for the need to replace filters, hoses, pumps, etc. Reports faulty or missing equipment to supervisor so that it can be repaired or replaced.

  • Wears all protective clothing and personal protective equipment required to offload, transfer, and filter product in a manner that ensures maximum personal safety.

  • Ensures the proper level of supplies, materials, and equipment associated with offloading and filtration are in stock. Completes purchase requisitions with an understanding of items deemed critical that must be on hand.

  • Completes all required paperwork, documentation, tags, etc. related to tasks in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Performs tasks with safety in mind and improving safety for others.

  • Uses a wide variety of hand and portable tools to perform assignments.

  • Performs duties in other departments, including Warehouse or Compounding when unloading and filtration work is not available.

  • Relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Expected to maintain work area clean and organized while performing tasks. Must clean up work area including all tools, materials, parts, fluids, etc. at the completion of tasks.

  • Communicates effectively with internal customers (QC, Warehouse, Compounding, etc.), team members, and other departments.

  • Based on company needs, overtime is required.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum 5 years of warehouse experience working in a manufacturing environment. Experience in refinery or similar industry preferred.

  • Forklift certification required. Must have experience operating a forklift up to 4,200 lbs. capacity.

  • Systematic, organized and well planned in work execution of self and others.

  • Must be a team player and also be able to work independently.

  • Ability to be self-sufficient by defining tasks for successful completion
  • Ability to handle high volume of work and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instruction and communicate clearly and concisely both written and verbal.

  • Ability to collaborate, communicate, and negotiate with others in an effective and professional manner.

  • Computer use, knowledge, and skills.

  • Must be flexible to change shift and/or schedule due to changing business needs. Ability to work overtime including 12-hour shifts and/or weekends.

  • Must have the ability to regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel, open or close valves, stand for extended periods of time up to the duration of a shift, walk, climb stairs and ladders, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, smell, regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles and fumes and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration and periods of cold and hot temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities but will provide guidance and training to other Material Handlers.
