Position Summary and Key Responsibilities

The Student Success Coach is responsible for coaching students through college transition, academic recovery, and support programs, assisting them in developing success plans, and guiding them in course selection and major declaration. Collaboration with campus resources like the Writing Center and Career Services is essential, as is advising students during First-Year Introduction sessions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with other campus service areas directly impacting the institution’s ability to improve student success.
  • Coach students identified through the early alert program, the student at-risk program, and the academic recovery program.
  • Aid students in developing recovery plans, preventative plans, and overall improved academic and social success.
  • Collaborate with the Writing Center, Career Services Office, and Inclusive Education and Global Experience Office.
  • Aid current students in course selection, declaring a major, and schedule changes throughout the year, and advise incoming students at all First Year Introduction sessions.
  • Serve as an instructor for a section of University 101 every fall.
  • Assist with general student affairs functions.
  • Serve on college committees as appointed.
  • Serves as an advisor to student groups as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, sociology, or a relevant field is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, writing, and speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively within a university environment are required.
  • The ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of experience working in student persistence, student services, education, or other related areas are preferred.

Work Conditions

  • Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., occasional evenings and weekend commitments
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Walking across campus for workshops and other special events as necessary.
  • Carrying materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
