The Site Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving safety performance on active construction sites supporting mission-critical interior buildouts, including data center configuration, access flooring systems, and maintenance operations. This role serves as the on-site safety authority, partnering closely with site leadership while maintaining alignment with corporate safety strategy and regulatory compliance.


The Site Safety Specialist ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA regulations, applicable ANSI standards, and ISO-aligned safety management systems, while fostering a proactive safety culture that supports zero-incident performance in high-risk, mission-critical environments.


Key Responsibilities

Site Safety Leadership

  • Act as the primary on-site safety representative, supporting site operations leadership in daily construction activities
  • Integrate safety planning into project execution, sequencing, and logistics
  • Provide visible safety leadership and promote a culture of accountability, hazard awareness, and continuous improvement
  • Serve as a safety liaison between site teams, subcontractors, clients, and corporate safety leadership


Regulatory Compliance & Standards Alignment

  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA (29 CFR 1910 & 1926) regulations
  • Enforce applicable ANSI standards (including fall protection, PPE, walking-working surfaces, and material handling)
  • Support alignment with ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems principles
  • Maintain accurate site safety documentation, logs, permits, and records


Hazard Identification & Risk Mitigation

  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and Pre-Task Plans
  • Perform routine and formal site safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments
  • Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and implement corrective actions immediately
  • Monitor high-risk activities including elevated work, access flooring installation, material handling, electrical coordination, and confined spaces


Training & Workforce Engagement

  • Deliver site-specific safety orientations for employees, subcontractors, and visitors
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and task-specific training
  • Coach field leadership and craft personnel on safe work practices
  • Support competency verification for PPE, fall protection, equipment use, and specialized tasks


Incident Management & Reporting

  • Lead or support incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations
  • Develop root cause analyses and corrective/preventive action plans
  • Ensure timely reporting to site leadership and the Safety Director
  • Track and trend safety metrics to support continuous improvement


Subcontractor & Client Coordination

  • Review subcontractor safety plans, JHAs, and compliance documentation
  • Monitor subcontractor performance for adherence to site safety requirements
  • Participate in client safety meetings, audits, and walkthroughs as required
  • Support mission-critical operational constraints, including live environments and uptime-sensitive areas


Continuous Improvement & Corporate Alignment

  • Support implementation of company-wide safety programs and initiatives
  • Provide feedback from the field to the Safety Director for program enhancement
  • Participate in internal audits, inspections, and safety reviews
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, response planning, and drills


Qualifications

Required

  • 3–7 years of construction safety experience, preferably in mission-critical, data center, or interior construction environments
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926)
  • Experience implementing safety programs aligned with ANSI and ISO principles
  • Proven ability to influence field leadership and craft workers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with safety documentation, reporting, and digital inspection tools


Preferred Certifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour (Construction) – required
  • OSHA 500/510, CHST, CSP, or equivalent – preferred
  • Trainer (First Aid / CPR / AED, Forklift, Manlift, Fall protection)
  • ISO 45001 awareness or internal auditor training


Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to work on active construction sites, including walking uneven surfaces and climbing ladders or stairs
  • Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible schedules as required by project needs
