Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Account Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations with a strong emphasis on construction accounting, including job cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition, and contract compliance. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely month-end close while partnering closely with project managers and operations leadership to support profitable project execution.
Duties
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP and construction accounting standards.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation, including schedules, support, and auditor coordination.
- Oversee job cost accounting, ensuring costs are properly coded, recorded, and analyzed by project.
- Prepare and review Work-In-Progress (WIP) schedules and job profitability reports.
- Manage percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition and contract margin analysis.
- Monitor contract values, approved change orders, under-/over-billings, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
- Partner with Project Managers to identify cost overruns, margin erosion, and billing issues.
- Oversee construction billing processes, including progress billings, retainage, and final billings.
- Ensure accurate lien waivers, pay applications, and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with Accounts Receivable to monitor collections, aging, and cash flow.
- Support cash flow forecasting related to project timelines and billing cycles.
- Review Accounts Payable coding to ensure accurate job and cost-code allocation.
- Oversee payroll entries and job labor allocations (including certified payroll, if applicable).
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, bonding requirements, insurance, and subcontractor documentation.
- Maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting and project accounting.
- Develop and document accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve reporting, and enhance system usage.
- Assist with accounting system implementations or upgrades (e.g., job cost or ERP systems).
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff (AP, AR, payroll, or junior accountants).
- Serve as a key financial partner to Project Managers, Operations, and Leadership.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting to support strategic decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 5 years of accounting experience, with significant construction or project-based accounting exposure.
- Prior experience managing or supervising accounting staff preferred.
- CPA or CMA preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, including WIP and POC.
- Proficiency with construction accounting or ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Spectrum, Procore, QuickBooks for Construction).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial models).
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to see the “big picture.”
- Excellent communication skills, especially when working with non-financial project teams.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Proactive, problem-solving mindset with strong analytical skills.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
