Position Summary

MCC instructors are higher education professionals who champion student learning. They engage and inspire students, applying innovative teaching and learning pedagogies to reach a variety of learners. They assess student learning to ensure student success, staying abreast of current and emerging trends in the discipline. Our instructors collaborate within the College as discipline experts, helping the College to reach its strategic goals through active participation in college committees and by promoting the College to future students throughout our community. Required to teach Chemistry courses in the classroom and laboratory settings.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

Full-time faculty members at MCC are subject to the following expectations:

  • Demonstrate content expertise and currency within their academic field.
  • Develop and maintain an increasingly diverse and effective pedagogical skill set that reflects our philosophy as established in our mission: Our focus is learning. Student success is our goal.
  • Demonstrate both the willingness and the ability to embrace technology within the college environment.
  • Prepare materials for laboratory instruction and maintaining laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain safe chemical usage, storage, and disposal.
  • Develop and maintain a solid commitment to college service and community engagement.
    • Engage in continued professional growth, scholarly engagement, and/or creative development.
  • Promote the department, and the College as a whole, to future students and community members by coordinating and/or assisting with department-specific programming.

McHenry County College offers a complete benefits package to full-time Faculty including coverage in medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, long term disability coverage, and flexible spending accounts. Employees also receive a competitive bank of sick and personal leave time along with an optional Faculty Sick Leave Pool. The College also offers employees the opportunity to save for retirement through deferred compensation plans.

The College will also waive tuition and fees for any full time Faculty who take credit courses at MCC as well as providing tuition reimbursement for pre-approved professional development activities upon successful completion of such course.
