Precision Manual Milling Machinist -- Specialty Trackwork

Imagine your workday starting at 3:00 pm in a clean, well-organized shop where rail and transit infrastructure parts take shape. As a Precision Manual Milling Machinist on our 2nd shift team in Richmond, Illinois, you’ll transform prints into precisely machined components that keep North America’s rail systems moving.

To set you up for success, you’ll first train on 1st shift (Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm) before transitioning to your permanent schedule on 2nd shift (Monday–Thursday, 3:00pm–1:30am).

• Set up and operate manual milling machines, dialing in offsets and verifying performance.
• Assemble cutters on holders and index inserts to match material and cut strategy.
• Load and unload parts with an overhead crane, following safe lift practices.
• Check features with precision measuring tools to confirm specs and quality requirements.
• Complete required quality documentation accurately and on time.
• Keep your workstation tidy and organized to support smooth production flow.
• Collaborate with support staff on programs, tooling choices, or machine concerns as they arise.
• Model a positive, helpful attitude that strengthens the shop team.

• High school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of machining experience.
• Solid understanding of feeds, speeds, and chip load, plus general tooling know-how.
• Ability to read and interpret production drawings with confidence.
• Reliability for on-site work in Richmond, IL, and flexibility to work overtime when needed.
• Mindset for continuous improvement and disciplined, safe work habits.

• Exposure to FANUC CNC controls.
• Background in industrial milling environments.

• Manual machining and industrial milling fundamentals
• CNC tooling knowledge and basic CNC milling familiarity
• Strong shop math and measurement skills

• CNC Mill (3–4 axis VMC) — Fanuc, Haas
• Fanuc control environment
