Employees may also receive tuition reimbursement for pre-approved coursework at other accredited institutions after successful completion. In addition, officers with at least (1) year of service receive a $1,000 for professional development activities annually.

Position Summary
Provide and maintain campus public safety at McHenry County College Campus
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
- Respond to campus emergencies.
- Deliver emergency messages to staff and students on campus.
- Receive and respond to service requests and questions regarding campus public safety.
- Patrol assigned areas to protect campus occupants, buildings and grounds through the enforcement of applicable state, federal, and local laws.
- Patrol building and grounds of McHenry County College and other College properties.
- Investigate criminal conduct, honor code violations, and conduct administrative investigations as directed. May be required to provide courtroom testimony based on investigation.
- Prepare written reports.
- Report potential fire hazards and implement emergency procedures in the event of a fire
- Enforce parking and traffic rules and regulations. Issue warnings and/or tickets when required.
- Proactively perform preventative patrol in uniform, plain clothes, on foot, or in a vehicle, and utilize the College electronic surveillance equipment.
- Provide personal security consultation to administrators, faculty, staff, and students who are threatened, being followed, or stalked.
- Attend court as required.
- Assist with vehicle jump starts and lockouts on campus.
- Work collaboratively with others (e.g., colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities.
- Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the equivalent combination of related training and education.
- First Responder Certificate, or equivalent CPR, First Aid and AED Certification or specialized training.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Valid F.O.I.D. card.
- Certification by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officer’s Training Board or must obtain within 6 months of employment
- Possess various access levels to LEADS or must obtain with 6 months of employment.
- Other applicable specialized training as required.
- One-year experience in related public safety or law enforcement position; or equivalent education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Certification by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officer’s Training Board.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills.
- Firearms proficiency
- Ability to maintain certification by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officer’s Training Board
- Must be able to maintain appropriate level of physical and mental fitness for duty
- Ability to maintain various access levels to LEADS
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to learn technological applications
- Knowledge of campus public safety procedures
- Knowledge of first responder and general first aid procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing under stressful conditions
- Responsible, honest, dependable, and conscientious
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to prioritize incidents as they arise
- Ability to acquire and keep confidential all campus public safety information
- Willingness and ability to determine problems and create individual solutions

- Ability to safely lift 60 pounds unassisted
- Possess the physical ability to respond to various emergency situations
