The Elkhorn Police Department is seeking qualified individuals to fill current full-time Patrolman vacancies.
Responsibilities
To preserve the public peace, to protect life and property, deter and detect criminal activity, enforce laws and ordinances, facilitate the movement of traffic and to perform community service functions in a problem-orientated policing environment.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age; excellent moral character; possess a high school diploma or equivalent; have valid driver’s license with good driving record; be able to perform essential physical and mental functions of a police officer; possess a high school diploma or equivalent; clear and concise speech; be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously; able to react quickly and effectively to stressful situations; good verbal and written communication skills; excellent moral character; able to use all standard law enforcement equipment; able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; no felony convictions, misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, or other crime that results in the prohibition of possession of a firearm.
Salary & Benefits: Annual full-time salary $65,468 - $81,467 after four years, 10 paid holidays, 10 days’ vacation after one -year, initial reimbursement of up to $850 for uniforms and equipment, plus excellent benefit package.
Lateral Transfers: Applications for lateral transfers will also be accepted. A “lateral transfer” refers to a candidate who has completed a probationary period and is currently employed by a municipal, county or state police agency. Corrections, reserve officers, and security officer experience does not fulfill our requirement for certified police experience as a lateral applicant. Factors considered in a lateral applicant’s entry wage include the level of certification, education, agency size, specialized training and assignments and other job-related factors that would help an officer be successful in our agency. “Police Experience” refers to completion of a probationary period and currently employed by a municipal, county or state police agency. Vacation time will also be adjusted according to police experience.
Selection Process: To include: written examination; oral board interviews; law enforcement suitability assessment; employment history review; background investigation; post- offer physical examination; vision examination; drug test; psychological profile.
