OPTICIAN/APPRENTICE OPTICIAN
About the Position: The Licensed Optician/Apprentice will work closely with ophthalmologists and optometrists to provide high-quality optical services to our patients. This role involves assisting patients with selecting and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses, performing adjustments and repairs, and educating patients on proper eyewear care.
Required/Preferred Education and Experience:
1. A minimum of 2 years of experience in an optical or healthcare setting is preferred.
2. Strong understanding of optics and lens technology.
3. Proficiency in using specialized optical equipment.
4. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems is a plus.
5. Education or certificate program in marketing and sales techniques to better position the practice’s offering of eyeglasses and products.
6. Familiarity with filing major vision care plans.

1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
2. Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
3. Ability to track eyeglasses and contact lens orders to determine the capture rate for the department.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Welcome patients to the optical shop and assist them with selecting frames and lenses.
2. Interpret prescriptions from ophthalmologists and optometrists to help patients choose suitable eyewear.
3. Measure patients' eyes and facial features to ensure the proper fit and comfort of eyeglasses and contact lenses.
4. Recommend lens options, coatings, and frame styles based on patients' needs and preferences.
5. Educate patients on lens choices, frame styles, and proper eye care.
6. Adjust and repair eyeglasses and contact lenses as needed.
7. Maintain accurate patient records and manage the inventory of optical products.
8. Monitor and track all eyeglass prescriptions and the number of scripts filled in the optical shop.
9. Capture most prescriptions written by physicians and optometrists.
10. Adhere to optical protocols and participate in training programs for staff and patients.
11. Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in lens technology.
12. Monitor frame displays and inventories, ensuring appropriate stock levels.
13. Assist the optical manager in processing backstock and discontinued products.
14. Decorate the optical shop according to seasons and promotions, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.
Physical Activity of Position:
· Standing and Walking: Opticians often spend considerable time standing and walking while assisting patients and performing tasks.
· Manual Dexterity: Fine motor skills are crucial for adjusting and repairing eyeglasses, handling small tools, and fitting contact lenses.
· Visual Acuity: Good vision is essential for reading prescriptions, inspecting lenses, and ensuring the accuracy of eyewear adjustments.
· Lifting and Carrying: At times, opticians may need to lift and carry boxes of frames, lenses, or other optical supplies, typically weighing up to 20 pounds.
· Bending and Reaching: Frequent bending and reaching are necessary to access equipment and supplies and to assist patients.
· Communication Skills: Clear verbal communication is vital for interacting with patients and colleagues, explaining eyewear options, and providing instructions.

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
