BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:
Directly manage the acquisition of materials and other products critical to the support of production and operations through negotiating optimal pricing, availability, and delivery of materials with vendors.
Reports To: Purchasing Manager
Summary/Objective:
The Buyer manages procurement of materials and products critical to production and operations, ensuring optimal cost, quality, and delivery. This role negotiates with suppliers, resolves performance issues, and maintains strong vendor and internal relationships. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Negotiates with qualified suppliers to obtain the lowest total cost for components and services, within acceptable lead times.
- Sourcing product and follow approval processes for supplier, pricing, and purchase order (PO)
- Assists in cost analysis and the development of long-term purchase agreements and terms based on quality, price, lot sizes and delivery terms as defined internally.
- Supporting internal customers by providing exceptional customer service and providing information regarding products and availability in a proactive, timely, and professional manner Developing positive relationships and maintaining rapport with suppliers, driving to continuous- improvement goals of optimal cost, quality, service, availability, and delivery
- Resolving supplier performance issues (cost, quality, delivery) in support of company objectives, determining proper corrective actions to defective and unacceptable goods and services, and escalating issues in a timely manner to management when needed
- Seek and partner with reliable vendors.
- Manage day to day transactional and administrative issues relating to issuing RFQ/RFP’s, supply agreements, PO variances, and vendor set up.
- Identifies opportunities to implement process enhancements to streamline inventory management and replenishment.
- Assists the department Manager with the monitoring and evaluation of obsolete, slow moving or excess inventory.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office setting within a manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as telephones, computers, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and manufacturing equipment. This list is not all inclusive.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will frequently need to talk, read, and hear. The role requires standing, walking, climbing stairs, using hands and fingers, reaching, and engaging in repetitive bending and squatting for 8-9 hours a day. The employee must also have the ability to read and understand detailed information, including small print on labels, and perform tasks that require attention to small or intricate details, ensuring accuracy and precision. Additionally, the ability to lift/move items over 50 lbs. is required.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time exempt position with regular working hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Production hours typically run from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additionally, the role may occasionally require extended hours beyond the standard 40-hour workweek and flexibility in working different hours as needed.

Up to 20%
Required Education and Experience:
- BA/BS degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management or related field and minimum of 3 years purchasing experience is a requirement.
- Equivalent Experience/Education: 3 years of supply chain management or purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with MRP concepts is a requirement.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) to support procurement tasks.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.

Salary : $58,000 - $60,000
