CLASS TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION CONSULTANT
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Exceptional Children Programs
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To educate all students substantially and effectively by:

BASIC REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implements all rules and regulations, policies and administrative guidelines as adopted by the Board of Education and the School SBDM Council.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation, pertaining to teachers and students.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, helps teachers to establish clear objectives and assessments for all lessons, units, and communicate these objectives to students.
- Participates in/leads Professional Learning Communities
- Provide professional development on special education issues including due process, eligibility, specific areas of disabilities to teachers and administrators.
- Complete due process forms correctly and accurately, schedule and chair ARCs according to special education policies and procedures
- Facilitate teachers’ understanding and implementation of Kentucky Administration Regulations and the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA)
- Provides non-evaluative feedback to teachers regarding instructional practices, interventions, strategies dealing with challenging behaviors
- Fosters collaboration among teachers.
- Assists teachers in collecting and analyzing student data and work to develop increasingly effective teaching methods that impact student achievement gaps and behaviors.
- Participates in decision making for program planning and development of individual education programs aimed at improving individual student achievement.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Strives to improve professional competence and collaboration with colleagues and communities.
- Attends staff meetings, serves on staff committees, and performs duties prescribed by the Director of Exceptional Programs and by Board of Education Policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Promotes positive public relations for the schools’ programs and activities.
- Maintains a professional appearance as an example for students.
- Maintains regular attendance.
- Adheres to the Professional Code of Ethics
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to:
-Valid State Teaching Certificate in the Special Education field
and Appropriate Consultant License (issued by EPSB after hire)
-Master’s degree
-Three years working experience in the special education field
