ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
for
CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
Responsible To: Superintendent
Primary Job Responsibility: To assist the Superintendent in
developing, implementing, and maintaining the best possible curricular and instructional programs and services for the McCracken County School District.
Essential Functions of Job Responsibility:
Curriculum and Instruction
- Implements all rules and regulations, policies and administrative guidelines as adopted by the Board of Education.
- Supervises, evaluates, and is responsible for programs directed by:
- Director of Elementary Instruction
- Director of Secondary Instruction
- Director of Exceptional Children Programs
- Director of Preschool
- Director of Technology
- Coordinates and directs the alignment of curriculum with state and national standards.
- Maintains communication and works closely with principals and district staff to implement curriculum.
- Communicates with Superintendent on matters related to curriculum and instruction.
- Makes recommendations regarding implementation of projects, programs, and activities related to curriculum and instruction.
- Meets periodically with instructional staff to resolve issues, communicate new developments, evaluate programs and assure that objectives are accomplished.
- Coordinates, and directs the development and implementation of the District Comprehensive Improvement Plan.
- Organizes, plans, directs, and implements innovative instructional programs.
- Responsible for providing reports on Instruction Department at Board Meetings.
- Attends and participates in local, state, and national professional development activities as appropriate to assignment.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises all Title I Part A budgets, staffing, instructional programming, and activities.
- Manages Title I Part A budget and evaluation reports.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises all Title II Part A budgets, evaluation reports and project activities.
- Complete required reporting related to Title I Part A and Title II Part A.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises all Title II-Part A, Teacher Quality project activities, budgets, and evaluation reports.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises all Title III, EL, Migrant, Homeless, McKinney-Vento, and related budgets, programming, reporting, and activities.
- Implements and monitors Title IV, Student Support and Academic Enrichment *SSAE) program.
- Develops and maintains district ESS budgets.
- Works with building coordinators to provide all ESS program activities including after school tutoring, before school tutoring, summer school, night school, Saturday school, and online learning opportunities.
- Provides training opportunities for ESS personnel.
- Maintains school and district ESS records.
- Assures that ESS program conforms to state guidelines, district policies, and goals.
- Implements textbook and supplementary material plans.
- Assists in the development of textbook/instructional (T/I) purchasing plans.
- Orders and distributes (T/I) materials.
- Serves as point of contact for district reporting on grants into Kentucky Department of Education software for various programs as assigned (GMAP or its successor.)
District Assessment Coordinator
- Assigns District Assessment and oversees the assessment requirements of Senate Bill 1 and ESSA (and other appropriate state and/or Federal assessment requirements), National Normed Reference Tests, benchmark assessments, and college/career readiness tests in the district.
- Prepares test result reports and serves as district liaison between the Kentucky Department of Education and schools.
- Serves as District benchmark testing coordinator.
School Based Decision Making
- Plans and organizes annual training workshops for SBDM council members.
- Serves as a trainer of SBDM council members.
- Trains SBDM council in principal selection process.
- Responsible for SBDM training verification rosters.
- Informs principals and other administrators of SBDM laws and regulations.
- Assists principals and SBDM councils with budgeting.
- Coordinates and directs meetings of the District Decision Making Council.
Other Areas of Responsibility
- Representative of the Board in Professional Negotiations
- Participates in meetings of the Superintendent’s Advisory Group (SAG).
- Attends and participates in meetings of the Board of Education.
- Assists Superintendent in the development of Board of Education meeting agendas and staff notes.
- Interprets and implements Board of Education Policies.
- Coordinates the AdvancEd accreditation's process for the district as directed.
- Coordinates the TELL Survey for schools.
- Supervises central office instructional support staff.
- Works to resolve conflicts and complaints as appropriate for assignment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Maintains a professional and appropriate appearance.
- Adheres to the professional code of ethics.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-Valid State Teacher Certificate (Preferred)
-Superintendent Certificate (Required)
-Five years professional experience in education with a minimum of three years’ experience as a school principal required.
