High School FACS Educator: Architect of Life & Career

Location: McCluer High School (9-12)

Year: 2026-2027 School Year

The Opportunity: Empowering the Next Generation of Doers

In our high schools, Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) is the bridge between the classroom and the real world. We are looking for a dynamic, visionary educator who understands that skills like culinary arts, human development, and financial literacy are the foundations of a successful life. You aren't just teaching "home economics"—you are preparing students for high-demand careers and independent living.

As part of the Ferguson-Florissant "New Chapter," you will lead a classroom that is hands-on, hearts-on, and future-focused. Whether your students are designing a sustainable interior or mastering professional culinary techniques, you are the guide who helps them turn passion into a profession. If you’re ready to inspire the leaders and creators of tomorrow, your next chapter starts here.

 Role Summary

As a High School FACS Teacher, you will lead a comprehensive program designed to empower students with the knowledge and skills to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society. You will facilitate a rigorous, hands-on environment that covers various pathways—such as Nutrition and Wellness, Culinary Arts, Child Development, or Fashion/Interior Design. Working collaboratively with your department and community partners, you will create an inclusive learning experience that prepares students for both college and immediate career success.

Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in Family and Consumer Sciences (9-12).

  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree, required; Master’s degree, preferred.

  • Industry Insider: You have a passion for current trends in hospitality, design, or human services and love bringing "real-world" relevance into the lab.

  • Equity Champion: You are committed to ensuring every student, regardless of background, has access to the life skills and career pathways that lead to economic mobility.

  • Hands-On Mentor: You thrive in a "lab-based" environment, managing equipment and student safety with ease while fostering a culture of professional excellence.

Your Impact (Key Duties)

  • Inspire Through Action: Design and lead project-based lessons that challenge students to solve real-world problems through cooking, designing, or caregiving.

  • Cultivate Professionals: Bridge the gap between school and career by teaching professional ethics, workplace communication, and technical skills.

  • Collaborate for Success: Partner with your CTE (Career and Technical Education) PLC to align curriculum with industry standards and regional workforce needs.

  • Utilize Resources: Leverage our district’s unique assets, including professional-grade kitchen facilities and community partnerships, to provide immersive learning.

  • Foster Leadership: Support and advise student organizations like FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) to build student confidence and leadership.

Your Leadership Partners

  • Primary Support: Building Principal / CTE Department Chair

  • Instructional Support:  Secondary Instructional Coaches

The Logistics of Your Success

  • Classification: Exempt, Certified Staff

  • Work Year: 10-Month Academic Calendar (187 Contract Days)

  • Salary: Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule, determined by experience and education level.

  • Benefits: Full-time Eligibility (Medical, Dental, Vision, & PSRS/PEERS Retirement).

The FFSD Advantage: Total Rewards & Support

We don't just hire teachers; we invest in life-long leaders.
