Funeral Home Transfer Technician

McAlister-Smith Funeral Home and Cremation is seeking compassionate and caring individuals to join our team as Nighttime Removal Technicians. As a Removal Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our funeral home by assisting in the respectful transfer of deceased individuals from various locations to our chapel. This is a highly important role that requires professionalism, empathy, and a strong work ethic. We are looking for individuals who are dependable, trustworthy, and willing to work on a flexible, on-call basis.

Looking for weekday Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform safe and respectful removal of deceased individuals from homes, hospitals, nursing homes, or other locations.
• Transport decedents to the funeral home, ensuring proper handling, dignity, and care.
• Work in pairs (two staff members per call) to safely lift and transport decedents onto funeral cots and into vehicles.
• Follow established protocols and maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
• Provide professional, compassionate service during sensitive situations.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the funeral home’s vehicles and equipment.
• Be on call on designated days, with flexibility to assist as needed for emergency removals.

Qualifications:

• Driver’s License (required)
• Ability to lift and handle decedents with respect, dignity, and care (physically demanding work).
• Strong stomach and ability to work in sensitive and emotionally charged environments.
• Compassionate, respectful, and professional demeanor at all times.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn and follow procedures in accordance with funeral home protocols.
• Flexibility with schedule, with availability for evening and overnight shifts.
• Previous experience in a similar role (preferred but not required).
• Live within close proximity to our Goose Creek Chapel.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $25.00 - $50.00 per hour, depending on experience and availability.

Schedule:

• On-call for set days with occasional additional shifts as needed.
• Nighttime hours with potential for overnight shifts.
• Weekends and Holidays will have available shifts as well.
