SMTC is hiring for a VP Sales Segment Leader!

SMTC Corporation was founded in 1985. SMTC is a mid-size provider of end-to-end electronics manufacturing services (EMS) including PCBA production, systems integration and comprehensive testing services, enclosure fabrication, as well as product design, sustaining engineering and supply chain management services. SMTC has facilities in the United States, Mexico, China and Canada. Services extend over the entire electronic product life cycle from the development and introduction of new products through to the growth, maturity and end-of-life phases.

Summary:

The Segment Leader is responsible for driving new customer development, within a defined market segment (Aerospace & Defense, Power & Smart Infrastructure, Cloud & Advanced Computing, Medical & Life Sciences, and/or Robotics and Autonomous). This role serves as business development of new customers in alignment with corporate leadership, ensuring segment strategies translate into sustainable revenue growth and margin expansion. The Segment Leader will lead business development while collaborating with GMs and influence the commercial roadmap for SMTC.


Essential Functions:

  • Define and execute a multi-year growth strategy for the assigned market segment, aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities that enhance SMTC’s market share and profitability.
  • Partner with GMs and functional leaders to ensure capacity, cost, and capability readiness to support customer growth.
  • Develop deep understanding of market trends, competitive dynamics, and technologies affecting the segment.
  • Build and connect with senior-level relationships with key customers, serving as a trusted strategic partner.
  • Lead strategic business reviews and ensure customer expectations are met through cross-functional coordination.
  • Own segment-level bookings, revenue, margin, and pipeline.
  • Maintain KPIs for revenue growth and forecast.
  • Partner with Finance and Operations to optimize pricing, cost structures, and commercial terms.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, export controls, ethical standards, and customer contractual requirements.
  • Maintain accurate CRM and pipeline data to support executive reporting and forecasting.
  • Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and collaboration across sites and functions.
  • Represent the segment within corporate commercial leadership forums and budget planning processes.
  • Mentor and develop emerging commercial talent aligned with SMTC’s leadership competencies and values.
  • Provide leadership to account teams, business development representatives, and program management staff where needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or related field (MBA preferred).
  • Certifications: N/A
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in sales, business development, or program leadership within the electronics manufacturing (EMS) industry.
    • Demonstrated success managing multi-site or regional customer portfolios exceeding $100M annual revenue.
    • Strong understanding of operational processes, costing models, and customer engagement strategies in EMS environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 15 pounds
  • Sit for extended periods while working at a computer
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Operate standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, and video conferencing tools.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required to customer locations, SMTC facilities, and industry events.
  • Ability to move throughout office and manufacturing environments, which may include exposure to noise, temperature variations, and standard industrial conditions.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a remote, home-based environment. Employees are responsible for maintaining a safe, private, and secure workspace that is free from excessive noise, distractions, and hazards. This role requires reliable high-speed internet access, sustained periods of computer-based work, and continuous access to SMTC-approved technology and communication tools. Employees are expected to participate in virtual meetings, video conferencing, and digital collaboration in alignment with standard business hours and departmental expectations. All work must be performed in accordance with organizational policies, data security rules, confidentiality requirements, and applicable regulatory guidelines.
