Position Overview
MBDA is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Intern to support production and engineering operations within a highly dynamic aerospace and defense environment. This 12-week internship provides hands-on experience in manufacturing processes, quality systems, and mission assurance while working alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams.
The program is designed to develop future engineering talent by exposing interns to real-world defense manufacturing challenges, rigorous standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Program Objectives
The Engineering Internship is designed to:
- Develop future aerospace and defense engineering talent aligned with MBDA standards and practices
- Provide hands-on experience in production, quality, and mission assurance environments
- Strengthen understanding of defense manufacturing rigor, including configuration control, traceability, and technical documentation
- Build a strong pipeline of candidates for future full-time engineering roles
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the internship, participants will be able to:
- Understand aerospace production control systems and manufacturing workflows
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Apply configuration management principles in a controlled defense environment
- Utilize quality tools, metrics, and data analysis to evaluate manufacturing performance
- Participate in mission assurance activities, including inspections, audits, and compliance processes
- Complete an engineering improvement project with measurable operational impact and present findings to leadership
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- Rising junior or senior preferred
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
