Mayo Law Group is a boutique firm representing defamation plaintiffs and advising growth businesses as fractional general counsel. We handle high-stakes litigation in state and federal courts across the country, with a decade of experience trying defamation cases before Virginia juries. Our practice also includes business tort litigation and strategic advisory for founder-led companies.
Role Description
We are hiring a full-time associate attorney to work on complex litigation matters from case inception through trial. Depending on experience and aptitude, the attorney will draft motions and briefs, manage discovery, prepare witnesses, attend hearings, take depositions, and work closely with the firm's attorneys to refine trial strategy. The right candidate will write well, speak well, and mean well. Periodic overnight travel, including air travel, is required, generally 4-6 times per year.
Attorneys seeking to build trial skills can do so in this role. Attorneys with different strengths can also contribute significantly through exemplary research, briefing, and litigation management. The successful candidate will join a team of team of three experienced attorneys and seven staff members. Admission to the Virginia bar is required.
Compensation
Compensation includes a base salary plus bonuses tied to objective performance metrics. Benefits include health, vision, and dental coverage, 401(k) matching, and meals during the workday. Paid time off is flexible and uncapped, coordinated responsibly around case demands.

We operate on a results-oriented model with substantial autonomy over schedule and work location. Team members work remotely and from our Charlottesville office as client needs, court appearances, and collaboration require.
