What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operators- Sign on Bonus position at Mayhew Tools?
Deerfield Packaging is looking to employ self-motivated, hardworking individuals to operate its CNC Swiss turning machines. Operators will be expected to follow a demanding production schedule and simultaneously run between three and six machines at a time. Supervisory experience greatly preferred.
$ 1500 Sign on bonus
Job Characteristics
Set up, operation, changeover and shut down of all CNC lathes
Read shop packs to match tool ID with quantity, material, cut, operations to follow, etc.
Identify and load corresponding program for each job
Regularly monitor product quality and make offsets as needed
Monitor shift handoffs responsibly to minimize machine downtime
Inspect dimensions of all tools – must be able to match to print and specs provided on shop packs
Inspect quality of all tools – must be able to inspect for dimensional tolerance and aesthetic tolerance
Use tape measures, rulers, dial/digital calipers, optical comparators (shadow graph) and depth gauges to ensure precision
Keep accurate and detailed paperwork; ability to read and interpret shop prints
Complete tasks typically managed by CNC Utility (material handler) in their absence, including (but not limited to) chamfer and load steel bars into bar feeders, discard scrap, wash product, etc.
Train other operators as needed, e.g. on the job training, shadowing, machine set up and changeover education, program checks, etc.
Ability to troubleshoot problems arising out of normal operation of lathes; maintenance functions include (but are not limited to) changing oil, replacing inserts and collets, program checks, etc.
Perform regular (daily/weekly/monthly/yearly) maintenance per machine schedules, such as motor replacements, machine rebuilds, etc.
Read, edit and interpret G- & M-code with sufficient proficiency to control movements and speed of lathes, including ability to customize written code to tailor to clients’ needs
Oversees CNC operation in the absence of CNC Supervisor
Participate in training new employees when needed
Required Skills
Collaboration with CNC workers and supervisor as needed
Prioritizes tasks and delegates responsibilities in absence of Maintenance Supervisor
Basic computer familiarity (file selection, OS operation, etc.)
Strong organization and time management skills while multitasking
Close attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
Written and verbal English communication skills; ability to compute simple arithmetic
Able to work with a team to accomplish company goals
Strict attention and adherence to safety guidelines including wearing all personal protective equipment (PPE)
Willingness to keep and maintain a clean and safe work environment
Adherence to attendance policy
Required Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
2 years’ experience as a CNC machine operator
Preferred Education/Experience
Managerial experience or experience leading teams
Experience With Swiss Lathes Highly Preferred
Associate’s degree or machining program certification
Experience or certification driving forklifts
Experience or certification operating hoists
Experience with WinCNC or ShopVue
5 years’ experience as a CNC machine operator
